The Shelby Township Police Department established its Community Services Unit to take a proactive approach to crime prevention. Shelby Township Police Department officers reach out to the community at events such as the Shelby Township Art Fair, Shelby Township Summer Fest, Shelby Township Christmas Aglow, National Night Out, the Shelby Township Parks, Recreation and Maintenance Halloween Spooktacular, the Shelby Township Senior Center Senior Olympics and our own Document Shred Day.

We strive to strengthen our partnerships with citizens of the business community, schools, places of worship and households. These partnerships support active information sharing and allow law enforcement officers to educate the public on current trends in crime. We provide training and guidance on many public safety topics such as ALICE training that focuses on active shooter civilian response, CPTED security surveys and RAD training for women’s self-defense as well as officer-facilitated talks on property theft, financial crimes, fraud and school safety. The Community Services Unit also hosts our Youth Law Enforcement Academy for two weeks every summer. The academy has grown in popularity each year and often fills quickly once the application process opens to the public.

The Community Services Unit consists of our School Resource Officers, members of the Traffic Safety Bureau, the Detective Bureau and Patrol Officers.

The Shelby Township Police Department recognizes the importance of community involvement and uses both social media and personal interactions to help humanize the law enforcement profession. If you would like to request a Police Officer to come to your location or event, please fill out an Officer Presentation Request.

Please be aware that we do not participate in drive-by celebrations. Requests for those services will not be accommodated. Thank you.
