Traffic Services
The Shelby Township Police Department Traffic Bureau is responsible for investigating all traffic crashes and enforcing traffic laws on the streets of Shelby Township. These crashes can range from minor fender benders to fatal accident investigations. The Traffic Bureau also focuses on crash prevention and enforcing traffic laws on roadways that have a high number of crashes or frequent citizen complaints. The bureau participates in alcohol enforcement details with neighboring agencies throughout the year. This grant-funded program allows us to place extra patrols on the road to focus solely on alcohol enforcement and drunk drivers.
All Traffic Bureau Officers have advanced training in accident investigation, and one Traffic Officer is certified in accident reconstruction. Our Motor Carrier Officer has extensive training to enforce weight limits and the many laws unique to commercial vehicles traveling through Shelby Township. We also have two Officers who are certified to install and inspect child car seats.
The Traffic Bureau is responsible for all traffic-related details such as road closures, parades, funeral details and dignitary escorts. The bureau also handles abandoned automobiles within the Township and works with local towing agencies to oversee their auto auctions throughout the year.
