Crime Scene Unit

The Shelby Township Police Department has a small group of specially trained Officers who serve in our Evidence Tech Bureau. Evidence techs are Patrol Officers who have completed specialized training that enables them to use the latest techniques and technologies to gather evidence at accident and crime scenes. Two Evidence Techs are assigned to each patrol platoon and are responsible for processing the evidence that originates from cases on their shift. In the case of a major incident or fatal accident, special teams of Evidence Techs are called in to process the scene quickly and efficiently.

Our Evidence Techs use advanced technology for scene documentation and evidence collection, including the FARO 3D Focus Laser Scanner and the TruNarc handheld narcotics analyzer.
